I think for cards like Xiara, it makes sense for certain cards to not be prelevant in the tournament scene, I have one dumb Corruption/Order deck which can generate Militia. I don't mind there being cards that are just a lot weaker than others, since Xiara at least provides a cool/interesting ability.

On the other hand, it makes sense for a Legendary card to be strong; but I don't think it's absolutely necessary if they bring in a unique ability, or something on a huge scale. I believe that some cards can be unplayable in tournaments, because there might be someone who wants to use it in some dumb just-for-fun casual deck. Since there are more than just ladder grinders on this game, it makes sense to keep weird/bad cards around, so those people can just mess around.

I'd actually like to see weird game modes appear eventually, although obviously there may be other priorities. MTG has pauper, and it'd be cool to see that in this game when there are more commons.

Me too. I like the singleton format a lot, where you cannot use more than one copy of any card.

It would be nice to see what aspects your opponents deck is before they play the shrine levels etc..

I think not being able to see the aspects of the opponent's deck is actually a great feature. It makes for some nice guessing games in the first few turns, and rewards skillfully keeping this information hidden for as long as possible.

Alot of games at least 1 of your aspects is known at turn 1, seeing as many decks, if not all have something they do on the first turn, there are some that might not do something first turn and start a bit slower, control decks namely, but you arent able to play anything if you dont play at least 1 aspect... so overall its not that much of a guessing game imo...

Some decks are pretty difficult to guess what they might have as answer though... for instance dominance with 5 shrines and 2 aspect, could he do a double sac, or a triple discard (if they have a few cards in hands) those make it difficult alot of times...wich in a way does make more fun, cause its rewarding to see that you where right in your decision in the end, but the opposite happens sometimes as wel...
Just an example wich I came across... where I had a tough choice, play more creatures or keep a bigger hand... :P

Actually, nowadays it's not so hard to guess it. Just guess Dominion, or something with Dominion, and you have high chances to get it right. If it's not Dominion then it's either Elf or Rage Aggro. lol

On a serious note, I guess the Hero itself and the 1st turn already give you a lot of hints. Of course it's only a guess and things might not turn out what you're expecting, but after playing a lot of matches you kinda get the feeling . So, I personally don't think it's that necessary.

Huh, you're right. I guess that makes it even worse.
Apparently, the heroes I was talking about are called 'Advanced Heroes'. They share the name of the Heroes included in the Starter Packs but have vastly better abilities. I noticed you can buy a bundle to get them which is only available for real money. I don't know if you can also get them from regular card packs.

So, is Spellweaver just another Pay2Win game?

You can get heroes from packs like any other epic. ANd since you only need one copy of each hero, a pack containing a hero will also include an extra rare or epic.

Advanced heroes aren't stricktly better than basic ones since advanced heros' abilities are a lot more expensive. Spellweaver is definitely not pay to win. It's really generous with its quest system and you can be quite competitive with budget decks. Just look them up on the forums.

Of course they have vastly better abilities and of course you get them from packs. Why would a greater cost mana/level-wise be less effective than a cheap one (although with basic Neeva, you sometimes wonder).

I don't know which other game made you this paranoid about everything, but why don't you try and make your own opinion about SW after playing it a little longer? I'd be surprised you still have doubts.

edit: blah VitaminC posts too fast.

Okay, that's fine them - so I just have to get lucky ;)

Well, the advanced hero abilities _are_ strictly better, that's why they're more expensive. Cost doesn't really matter, since it's almost impossible to win before the advanced hero is able to use its ability.

I've played a lot of ranked games in the past few days and it's very difficult to win against advanced heroes, unless I'm extremely lucky and my opponent is extremely unlucky. I've had more success winning against Dominion mana ramp decks with Powerlust Incarnates...
Tooms wrote:I don't know which other game made you this paranoid about everything
Well, whenever I see a game with something that is 'exclusive', i.e. must be bought with real money, I get paranoid. To quote Catch 22:
“Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't after you.”

Anyway, VitamineC has allayed my concerns in that regard for the time being. Thanks everyone!
